Samsung Releases New Family Oriented Camcorders

Following is an article of Samsung Digital Camcorder Series at CES 2011.
Posted By CrunchGear.com.
New model is HMX-H300, H100, P300, P100 etc.
Samsung announced several new camcorders today as well. The HMX-H300 series, the SMX-F50 series, and the HMX-P300 and HMX-P100. We’ll see them out on the floor today at the Samsung booth, but lets take a quick look at them first.
First up, the HMX-H300. Samsung is touting it as the ultimate family camcorder, with 3 hour battery life and face detection. Underneath all these “family friendly” features, beats the heart of a pretty decent video camera. The HMX-H300 has a 5.1 megapixel sensor, 30x optical zoom, and a 3″ touch LCD screen. It’s not HD, but more importantly it has image stabilization, so when you use that 30x optical zoom in and watch the kid playing baseball, it won’t shake like the camera in the Blair Witch Project. Prices vary on the HMX-H300 series from $399 to $599, depending on the model. It’ll be available next month.
The HMX-P300 and HMX-P100 (pictured above), are smaller pocket versions of their big brother. They both have image stabilization, auto focus, face detection, and charge off the USB port. The HMX-P300 has a 3x optical zoom, and the HMX-P100 has a 1x optical zoom. The HMX-P300 retails for $199 and will be available in March, and the HMX-P100 is $149, and should be available next month.

Samsung's New Camcorder HMX-P300 & HMX-P100

More Full HD in your pocket with the new Samsung HMX-P300 and HMX-P100 camcorders. If you're a YouTube junkie, read this article.

Samsung is giving the pocket-sized point-and-share camcorder market something to talk about with the introduction of the Full HD Samsung HMX-P300 and HMX-P100. With budget price points in mind, the Samsung HMX-P300 and HMX-P100 are geared for the average YouTube shooter and uploader, with a One Touch Sharing feature. The best part is that both camcorders record at 30fps, which is ideal for video sharing sites like YouTube. There's even a pop-out USB arm for easy connectivity. The Samsung HMX-P300 and HMX-P100 will go up against Panasonic's HM-TA1, Sony's Bloggie cams, and the Flip Series.

"The HMX-P300 and HMX-P100 are the perfect point-and-share camcorders for customers who get as much enjoyment in sharing their videos as they do from capturing them," said Mr. Hyunho Chung, Executive Vice President and Head of the Digital Imaging Business, SamsungElectronics. "Sharing our videos with friends and family through social networking sites and blogs is one of the great pleasures in capturing live footage, and we've used the latest Samsung technology to make this easier than ever. These point-and-share camcorders are ideal for anyone who has a busy lifestyle, but still enjoys capturing and sharing eye-catching moments on-the-go. They're small and stylish enough for you to want to take everywhere."

For some odd reason, the Samsung HMX-P100 has a 1/3.2-inch 5-megapixel BSI (Backside Illuminated Sensor) while the HMX-P300 has a 1/3.2-inch 8-megapixel conventional CMOS sensor. The HMX-P300 is priced higher than the HMX-P100, and both camcorders record at 1920 x 1080 30fps. Both camcorders record in the H.264 format to very tiny MicroSD cards, which will most likely get misplaced or go MIA, given the fact that the majority of P300 and P100 shooters will be YouTube-hungry tweens and teens.

We just can't get over the fact that the HMX-P300 has an inferior sensor, save megapixel count, when compared to the HMX-P100. It just doesn't make sense! The HMX-P300 has an 8 lux minumum illumination, while the HMX-P100 has a 5 lux minimum illumination. Keep in mind that the P300 was measured at a 1/15 shutter speed while the P100 was measured at a 1/30 shutter speed, so the minimum lux would be even higher if the P300 was measured at 1/30. What does that translate to? Samsung skimped on the sensor on the more expensive model. Go figure.

The Samsung HMX-P300 is more attractive, however, with a 3-inch touch-screen LCD, while the HMX-P100 has a standard 2.3-inch LCD. That will be the prime selling point, and we can see the Samsung HMX-P300 gaining a lot more popularity, courtesy of the touch-screen LCD. The Samsung HMX-P300 also has the larger 3x optical zoom, compared to the HMX-P100's 1x optical zoom, and both camcorders have DIS (Digital Image Stabilization). The Samsung HMX-P100 has an AF lens, and both camcorders have Auto Focus and Smart Auto Functions, in addition to Smart Pause. Smart Pause allows shooters to pause while recording, adjust the angle of the camcorder, and then resume shooting, while footage is recording within the same video file as opposed to being two separate files.

With One Touch Sharing, the Samsung HMX-P300 and HMX-P100 can be connected to a PC via their built-in USB arms, enabling videos to be uploaded automatically. Intelli-Studio 2.0 software is pre-installed to allow this to happen.

The Samsung HMX-P300 and Samsung HMX-P100 will be available in March for $200 and $150, respectively.
